Pork and cabbage dumplings

Frozen daysWhen I got out of the tram at Alexanderplatz there was nobody. The only other people around seemed to be two police agents sitting in their car overlooking the square. A weird sensation, being all alone in a place that is usually buzzing with life. But for once, the pandemic was probably not the … Continue reading Pork and cabbage dumplings

Dumplings and dirty kitchens Small cockroaches were crawling over the kitchen table. They were also hanging out in the three microwaves, of which I am sure at most one was working. So before starting to cook, I had to clean the table first. No, this was not in a hostel, but in my own place. … Continue reading Pork and Leek Potstickers

Evening light after a warm spring day in the very dry south of Spain. Though one similarity with Vienna this time of year: beautiful blossoms.
The meteorological spring started yesterday on this side of the world! Time to start dreaming of warmth and summer trips...
Last weekend it was time for a calçotada. A Catalan tradition that not that known in other places. Usual comment: "What are those burned things?"
Today is usually one of the biggest days for flower sellers. But although bouquets are nice, I much prefer sitting in between flowering plants outside, like bougainvillea and strelitzia (bird of paradise flowers).
I don't know about you, but I sometimes need some sweet treats during this cold winter weather.
Winter Wonderland at its finest! Semmering is just an hour drive from Vienna, but a different world all together.
