Pork and cabbage dumplings

Frozen daysWhen I got out of the tram at Alexanderplatz there was nobody. The only other people around seemed to be two police agents sitting in their car overlooking the square. A weird sensation, being all alone in a place that is usually buzzing with life. But for once, the pandemic was probably not the … Continue reading Pork and cabbage dumplings

Gnomes and Pierogi Who would have thought I would ever feel sort of nervous about crossing a border within the European Union? I certainly did not. But getting into the bus from Berlin to Wroclaw a week after borders opened again, I did have a slightly weird feeling in my stomach. It was my first … Continue reading Beetroot, onion and lemon dumplings

Slovenian holidays Enjoying a plate of good seafood - some grilled sea bass, langoustines, and small octopus - while watching the sailing boats in the small harbour slowly move along with the waves. For me, this is one of the perfect moments in life. (Of course, I understand this might be different in case you … Continue reading Rolled dumplings with pumpkin seed pesto

Dumplings and dirty kitchens Small cockroaches were crawling over the kitchen table. They were also hanging out in the three microwaves, of which I am sure at most one was working. So before starting to cook, I had to clean the table first. No, this was not in a hostel, but in my own place. … Continue reading Pork and Leek Potstickers

Park life I definitely like summer. Not just because I enjoy being outside and feeling the warmth of the sun on my skin. But also because of the effect it has on people and places. In the depths of winter, when it is freezing cold, Berlin can look quite dark and gloomy. Although this undoubtedly … Continue reading Gnocchi with peperonata sauce

Slovak discoveries On a sunny autumn day, at half past four, I ran out of my house to the metro. And from the metro station at the same speed to the train. I´m not usually in a rush, but having to catch a plane is one of the occasions where a bit of hurrying might … Continue reading Halušky with pumpkin and sheep cheese

The beauty of some man-made landscapes... The rice fields were one of my favourite things on Bali.
Such a typical sight in Vienna, the fiaker (horse carriages). Maybe one day I should try, now that summer seems to be here.
So looking forward for summer to come! But Australia in April was a good first taste of sunshine. Still dreaming of the beautiful view from the Tomaree summit.
I could get up early for this sunrise every day!
Tirta Empul Temple in Bali. The temple has a holy spring of which the water is used for purification. It was founded in the 10th century and is, for me, a truly beautiful place with a calming atmosphere - despite the other tourists.
Evening light after a warm spring day in the very dry south of Spain. Though one similarity with Vienna this time of year: beautiful blossoms.
