Pasta with Zucchini

Horses and pasta Walking around in the supermarket trying to find nice vegetables wasn't the easiest in the small town. But I did need to pick something now that I had finally made it in time to a supermarket. I was traveling through Iceland, enjoying the incredible nature. Every day there were again new, amazing … Continue reading Pasta with Zucchini

Frozen daysWhen I got out of the tram at Alexanderplatz there was nobody. The only other people around seemed to be two police agents sitting in their car overlooking the square. A weird sensation, being all alone in a place that is usually buzzing with life. But for once, the pandemic was probably not the … Continue reading Pork and cabbage dumplings

Autumn in SwitzerlandWhen the train slowly rolled into Bellinzona after a beautiful trip past some of the amazing lakes and mountains of Switzerland, it was starting to get dark and it was raining. No slight drizzle, but real rain. As in, pouring down rain. I had about fifteen minutes before the reception of the hostel … Continue reading Pasta with Chestnut Pesto

Parmesan cheese, pumpkin and balsamic vinegar

Driving through food country It was a dark blue Lancia Ypsilon that was waiting for me. To be honest, I was a tiny bit nervous. After all I had not driven a car in about a year and I had never driven in Italy. But what is life without a bit of risk (especially if … Continue reading Parmesan cheese, pumpkin and balsamic vinegar

Gnomes and Pierogi Who would have thought I would ever feel sort of nervous about crossing a border within the European Union? I certainly did not. But getting into the bus from Berlin to Wroclaw a week after borders opened again, I did have a slightly weird feeling in my stomach. It was my first … Continue reading Beetroot, onion and lemon dumplings

Slovenian holidays Enjoying a plate of good seafood - some grilled sea bass, langoustines, and small octopus - while watching the sailing boats in the small harbour slowly move along with the waves. For me, this is one of the perfect moments in life. (Of course, I understand this might be different in case you … Continue reading Rolled dumplings with pumpkin seed pesto

Spargelzeit (Asparagus time) Finally, it is spring again! Although all seasons have their advantages, spring might be my favourite because of many small reasons: The first days of going outside without a coat, enjoying the first warm rays of sunshine. The birds singing in the tree in front of my house when I wake up. … Continue reading Asparagus tortellini in ginger broth

Traveling and Toronto After two years of working in a full time job and living in an - in my opinion very nice - apartment, I felt the time had come to quit all of it and go traveling again. So, having canceled all the contracts and stored some boxes in a storage space in … Continue reading Spicy bacon and tomato pasta

Camping cooking It is summer again! Here in Barcelona it is the season of street parties, beach, and general happiness. Even though I still have to work the normal rhythm, when I come out of work and can go for some drinks in the sun it feels like holidays. But the real holidays for me … Continue reading Lemon ravioli with spicy prawns

Train ride to the South As spring is in the air and the extra hours of daylight certainly give me more energy, I decided it was time for a long weekend off. My parents were staying in the south of Spain for a month, so I would go to visit them there. As there were … Continue reading Artichoke and Eggplant Tortellini with Almonds

Evening light after a warm spring day in the very dry south of Spain. Though one similarity with Vienna this time of year: beautiful blossoms.
The meteorological spring started yesterday on this side of the world! Time to start dreaming of warmth and summer trips...
Last weekend it was time for a calçotada. A Catalan tradition that not that known in other places. Usual comment: "What are those burned things?"
Today is usually one of the biggest days for flower sellers. But although bouquets are nice, I much prefer sitting in between flowering plants outside, like bougainvillea and strelitzia (bird of paradise flowers).
I don't know about you, but I sometimes need some sweet treats during this cold winter weather.
Winter Wonderland at its finest! Semmering is just an hour drive from Vienna, but a different world all together.
